ASABA-Secretary to Delta State Government, Mr. Ovuozourie Macaulay, said, yesterday, that the state government intends to leave behind a legacy where people will no longer depend on oil.

Macaulay spoke in Asaba, Delta State, with journalists. He said that the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan will ensure it completed all the projects it started.

Macaulay said: “We are focusing on Delta without oil. We may not get it all right in this Uduaghan’s administration, but only a selfish person will initiate a programme that will benefit him alone. We want to leave a legacy that even the man who will take over in 2015 will be able to say thank God that a foundation had been laid.”

On the proposed N18,000 minimum wage, he said workers in the state were already being paid N17,000, and urged workers to give the state government more time to fashion out ways to make up the difference.

He said: “It may be difficult for labour unions in Delta State to go on strike because of the minimum wage. We just started implementation of the N17,000 consolidated salary harmonisation.”
