ADO-EKITI—Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has ordered the payment of the outstanding benefits of former members of the state Local Government Commission, in line with the Appeal Court judgment.
The governor, however, said he would go ahead with the reconstitution of a new board for the commission, saying “no employee can be forced on an unwilling employer.”
It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Ado Ekiti few days ago upheld the judgment of a lower court which faulted the dissolution of the board of the commission by the state government and asked the government to pay the dissolved members their benefits up to February 2, 2011, before the dissolution.
The governor in a statement yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, said “Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration, being a firm believer in the principles of rule of law, has commenced arrangements to effect the payment of emoluments accrued to the members of the dissolved commission as directed by the court, after verifying the figures with relevant departments.
According to the statement, “this however, will not, in any way delay the planned reconstitution of the commission, as no employee can be forced on an unwilling employer.”
