Nasarawa put a stop to Rivers’ sweep of cycling medals at the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt by winning the men’s 140 kilometres mass start road race.
NAN reports that Rivers had won all seven events earlier concluded in the sport which had 15 gold medals at stake.
In the race which took place on the Ikot Abasi road, David Robert upstaged the hosts’ Bob Osim just close to the finishing line to win the competition’s eighth gold medal.
Nasarawa now places second on the cycling medals table with one gold medal behind Rivers, winners of seven gold, five silver and one bronze medals so far.
Delta, which swept the medals at the last edition of the festival in 2009, have two silver and four bronze medals so far while another cycling powerhouse, Edo, has only one silver medal.
Imo and Borno are with one bronze medal each so far in the competition which will end on July 9.
