AWKA-THE Emeka Offor Foundation, established by Chief Emeka Offor, weekend, donated books and equipment worth about N1 billion to 30 tertiary institutions, 80 secondary schools and 80 primary schools selected from the six geo-political zones in the country.
The ceremony, which took place at Emeka Offor’s Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State country home, attracted the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, governors Peter Obi and Rochas Okorocha.
Foundation embarked on the project because it discovered that Nigerian children no longer read books, adding that it was one of the reasons the crime rate was on the increase in the country.
According to him, it is the belief of the Foundation that by keeping the children busy with books, they will not find time to engage in criminal activities.
