IBADAN – YORUBA Council of Elders, YCE, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to try both the incumbent Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal and his predecessor, Mr. Dimeji Bankole to know their involvement in the N10billion loan scam.
The group frowned at the prosecution of Dimeji and his former deputy, saying the anti- graft agency should extend its dragnet and investigate all those that were involved in the scam.
YCE said it “does not question Demiji’s arrest but frowned at the inappropriate treatment meted out to the former Speaker. The YCE is of the opinion that all the members of the caucus involved in this alleged misappropriation should be arrested and investigated along with the former Speaker”.
In a statement read by its National Secretary, Chief Idowu Sofola, SAN, the council expressed its dissatisfaction over the arrest of the former speaker, adding that it was not fair how the two of them were being used as sacrificial lambs.
He said, “we know that some of them are still around. If the PDP could wield the big stick once when they forced a Senate President to resign over graft, the current Speaker and his deputy who are collaborators with Bankole and Nafada in the loan deal should be made to stand down from their exalted positions and face similar ordeals as their former leaders”.
