IBADAN – THE Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Oyo state ,has accused the immediate past governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala of trying to make the state ungovernable since he failed to realize his second term ambition.
It also condemned alleged ceaseless media attacks from the ex-governor against the person of Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the new administration in the State.
The allegation was contained in a statement by the party’s State Secretary, Mr. Wasiu Olatubosun, in apparent reaction to an opinion article published in an Ibadan-based newspaper. The piece was allegedly written by Prince Dotun Oyelade, an aide to Alao-Akala.
According to ACN, ‘’First and foremost, our party wishes to reject a news report carried by the national newspaper that the secretary of our great party was quoted in a fake news story regarding the readiness of Governor Ajimobi’s list of Commisioners.
ACN maintained that at no time did any official of the party comment on the subject and we describe the entire story as a figment of the writer’s imagination.
‘’The position of the state secretariat of the ACN on appointments remains that the governor is constitutionally empowered to invite suitable persons into his administration in conjunction with party leadership ,we can only assure that he will not disappoint on the general expectation that only credible and competent individuals would be called upon to work with him in the task to rebuild the state.
“ACN finds it worrisome that some people after losing a popular election would be hell-bent on making the state ungovernable by sponsoring chaos among residents, as well as champoining media attacks against the person of the governor to the extent that a supposed independent newspaper would be reduced to a medium of propaganda in the hands of discredited persons.
‘’Oyelade had, by his article re-emphasised the vicious intent of Akala group to frustrate the present administration in all fronts simply because Ajimobi and the ACN rose to the challenge of putting a stop to bad governance in the Pacesetter state as supported by the electorate who voted the PDP government out from power during the last governorship and House of Assembly polls.
‘’In a matter of days, the world would be made to see the clear picture of immeasurable cases of corruption which his government engaged in while it would be revealed to the world how he wasted about N400billion in just four years.”
Akala’s reation
Reacting to the allegation, an aide of former governor, Mr Dotun Oyelade said; “ the statement by ACN today threatening to reveal underhand dealings by Akala administration is welcome and we really can’t wait to see another symptom of a govt that struggles unsuccessfully to focus on the mandate unfairly handed to it by an unsuspecting electorate. The era of shadow chasing assumes full bloom in our dear state.”
