LAGOS – Worried by the nonchalant attitude of Lagosians to waste handling, Governor Babatunde Fashola, yesterday, directed relevant security agencies in the state to step up enforcement  of environmental laws, especially indiscriminate dumping of refuse into canals and drainage channels.

Also, Governor Fashola, who flagged-off a one day workshop, yesterday, organised for civil servants in the state to celebrate the civil service week, with the theme; ‘Energising the Public Servants’ promised that his administration will continue to adopt innovative programme and strategies to combat various challenges hindering the development of the state mega city status.

Fashola insisted that everyone has a role to play in protecting and preserving the environment.

He gave the stern order at the handing over ceremony of 100 new compactor trucks to some Private Sector Participants, PSPs, in waste management in the state to increase their turn-around time and the inspection of a waste recycling plant at the Olusosun Dumpsite, near former tollgate on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
