BENIN— FORMER Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, yesterday, alleged that the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was responsible for the problems confronting the nation today. He admonished President Goodluck Jonathan to be wary of Obasanjo’s counsel.

Senator Owie, who was reacting to  recent comments credited to the former President, that corruption was the major problem confronting the nation, said Obasanjo lacked the moral right to comment on such issues, when his administration actually “institutionalised corruption in its eight years in power.”

According to him, “Obasanjo must not talk at all. As a matter of fact, the problem we have in the country was created by Obasanjo and so he should keep his mouth shut and allow this administration  concentrate on what it wants to do.

How can Obasanjo talk about corruption as being entrenched in Nigeria.His administration entrenched corruption in the country. Who brought the regime of ‘Ghana must’ go bags to the National Assembly?

“Who owned the bags of millions of naira displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives in the 4th National Assembly? What of the Obasanjo library? What was the source of the funds for the library? Obasanjo is not competent to talk about corruption.

The EFCC under him was used against his perceived enemies. Ribadu, his agent has reaped the rewards of wickedness of the actions Obasanjo used him for. He was presidential candidate of the ACN yet even his party members voted against him,” he added.

EFCC under Obasanjo went after Governors who were not Obasanjo’s friends,” he added.

Owie admonished President Jonathan to “be careful because a lot of Nigerians are expecting so much from him. He has conscience but some of these people do not have. So he should be careful with some of the advises being given to him by people like Obasanjo. Obasanjo ruined this nation and if not for God and some dogged Nigerians, he would have still remained in power there.”
