Owerri – Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has said that no amount of blackmail or falsehood will deter him from accomplishing his administration’s set goals for the people of the state.
Ohakim stated this while addressing Imo political stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Owerri.
“It is most unfortunate that every project by this administration is brazenly attacked by detractors, even without minding the dividends of such projects to Imo peopleâ€, he said.
The Governor also explained why he decamped to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that what his administration accomplished within two years, was what previous governments could not achieve in four years.
“My return to the PDP was strategic. Nobody lost anything. I know that it would annoy some people but I believe that nobody has lost anything. I did not rejoin the PDP because I wanted a second term but just for the good of Imo peopleâ€, he said.
The Governor said, he would with the full cooperation of his brother Governors from the South East zone, attracted federal presence to the region.
He pointed at the dredging of River Niger and the takeover of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, as some of the successes recorded, adding that the dredging of Nworie River would be borne by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Federal Government.
He added that those who claim that the dredging of Nworie River is a waste of scarce funds are not well informed of the financing of the laudable project that has changed the face of Owerri, even the project is in its first phase.
