FCT courts Canada on mass housing development

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has invited Canadian investors to explore opportunities in the development of mass housing and other infrastructure in the territory.

FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Nathaniel Olorunfemi, made the call while receiving the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Chris Cooter, in his office. He asserted that the FCT Administration will in the next two or three months bring in multi-billion-dollar investment into Abuja, claiming that the investments are almost at the final stage as part of the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangements to provide basic infrastructure in four new districts of the FCT.

Olorunfemi said that the new districts are Durumi, Gwarinpa I, Kado and Mabushi, stressing that additional three new districts are in their planning stage for the same kind of PPP arrangement. He added that the FCT administration plans to make Abuja one of the top twenty cities in the World by the year 2020, which could only be achievable with massive and sustainable investment in infrastructure.

According to him, adequate arrangements are being put in place to ensure that all necessary windows of opportunities are provided for all genuine investors to cash in for the benefit of all.

In his remarks, the Canadian High Commissioner said that he is impressed with the level of development in the Federal Capital Territory, and also congratulated Nigeria for the successful 2011 general elections. He noted that the elections created the best impression for the country on the World for a very long time.

The meeting was attended by the Acting Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and some directors of the FCT Administration as well as the Coordinator of the Abuja Infrastructure and Investment Centre (AIIC).
