Former Nigerian internationals Moses Ugbusien and Sunday Uti are in town to boost home-based athletes at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Golden League final billed for at the Warri Township Stadium this afternoon.
Ugbesien and Uti were members of the Nigeria 4x400m quartet that won a bronze Nigeria’s first track and field medal at the Olympics at the Los Angeles 1984 Games. Other members of the team were Rotimi and Innocent Egbunike.
Ugbesien and Uti arrived Lagos from America in company of the AFN president Solomon Ogba who was in New York last weekend to monitor Nigerian athletes.
The Golden League final will feature the best of home based Nigerian athletes who had toiled for the N2million jackpot in four previous meetings. Baba Ibrahim (Hammer), Shola Anota (Long Jump), Justin Agu (800m) and the NSCDC 4x100m team are the top runners for the top prize.
Interestingly Four United States of America based Nigerian athletes are also in Warri to participate in the golden league final. The athletes include Noah Akwu, Stanley Gbagbeke and Omotayo Talabi, the athletes would be hoping to use the golden league to guage their preparations for next weeks Mobil Championships billed for Calabar.
