ABEOKUTA – GOVERNOR Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State yesterday said that his administration was looking into the possibility of putting the lives and roles of prominent indigenes in the state into the school curriculum for children and younger generations in the state to appreciate the contributions of such people to development of the state.
Senator Amosun who spoke in Abeokuta at a rally to commemorate the June 12 Anniversary at the MKO Abiola Stadium, said doing that would “ensure that even kids are aware of the role of people like the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 Presidential Elections; Bashorun MKO Abiola and the sacrifice he made.”
Speaking at the rally where participants trekked round the state capital for two and half hours, the Governor said “late Chief Abiola fought for what all of us are enjoying today. Generations after us must know what great men like Papa Awolowo, Chief Abiola, Dr. Beko Ransome Kuti, Dr. Tai Solarin and other great men did. They should be celebrated.
We are looking into the possibilities of putting the lives of our prominent leaders and their roles into the school curriculum such that our kids will know.”
Governor Amosun who spoke after others such as Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin, Dr. Abubakar Momoh and Mallam Tanko Yinusa, said his administration would ensure budget discipline such that allocations would be strictly used for its purpose.
He said “for us, provision of amenities and good life is what we stand for. We will ensure that budget is implemented to the letters. Whatever money is allocated would be judiciously spent for the purpose it was allocated.”
Speakers at the rally eulogized Chief Abiola for laying down his life for nation’s democracy, adding that people must enjoy dividends of democracy through good governance.
