By Victoria Ojeme

ABUJA – A group, Voluntary Blood Donors Club of Nigeria, VOBLODOCON, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to emulate former President Olusegun Obasanjo by voluntarily donating blood as part of measures to boost the nation’s blood bank.

It also called on all Nigerian politicians to join Nigerian blood donors in donating blood to boost their physical health.

The group, in a statement  issued in Abuja, yesterday, to mark the World Blood Donor Day, further appealed to the President to consider the “grey areas” of the Health Bill currently awaiting his assent.

The group said: “We wish to call on all healthy individuals, politicians and all Nigerians, especially our God-given, gentle, humble and easy going President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to emulate the past president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in the aspect of blood safety.

“Obasanjo donated blood on 12 May 2005 during the commissioning of the blood donation apex body in Nigeria, the National Blood Transfusion Service of the Federal Ministry of Health.”
