Nwodo endorsed my nomination – Sen Eze

By Tony Edike
ENUGU— THE Senator representing Enugu North in the Senate, Chief Ayogu Eze, has told the National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Enugu that his nomination was duly signed by the former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Senator Eze, who appeared before the tribunal to adopt his deposition on oath in defence of his re-election, said he was duly elected to represent Enugu North senatorial district in the National Assembly.

But reprieve came the way of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of PDP, yesterday, as the candidate of People for Democratic Change, PDC, Obinna

Ezeofor, for Enugu West senatorial seat, filed a motion to withdraw his petition against his re-election.
The Labour Party, LP, senatorial candidate for Enugu North, Chiief Mike Ajogwu SAN, had dragged Eze before the tribunal challenging his re-election.

Ajogwu had while cross-examining Eze drawn his attention to Exhibit ‘M’, being a letter that emanated from one Mrs Ekwo at Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu, authorizing a rerun of the primaries and demanded to know if the Electoral Act which he contributed in its amendment provided for a rerun, but the Senator said he wouldn’t know.

Ajogwu questioned him further: “If you are quarreling with Nwodo and Nwodo resigned on January 12, how come you didn’t do your primaries on January 12, 13 and 14 and it was done on January 20?

Eze replied: “I am not the PDP National Working Committee (NWC)”.

When Ajogwu insisted on knowing who assigned the January 20 date for the primaries in Enugu North, Eze said that Okwesilieze Nwodo did so in advance.

Eze, however, accused the petitioner of being a member of a faction of PDP.

The ruling PDP through its lawyer, Vin Ene announced the withdrawal of its witness while INEC did not call any witness before the tribunal.

The tribunal presided over by Justice A.N. Liman directed all the parties to file written addresses within seven days and come on June 30 for adoption.
