The board of the Nigeria Football Federation has unequivocally stated that they would not be calling for a congress as directed by the National Sports Commission.
NFF head of security committee, Effiong Johnson who spoke with 2muchsports.com said that the NSC does not have the right to tell them to call for an emergency congress declaring that it is only the prerogative of the executive committee to decide when a congress can be called.
Chief Effiong Johnson noted that calling for the congress must be in line with the statute of the Nigeria Football Federation which he said provides that state FAs must be given a thirty day notice for a congress to hold.
”I want to tell you that we are not calling for any congress, these are the handiwork of the NSC DG, Chief Patrick Ekeji who is bent on doing everything within his power to remove us from office. There is no logical reasoning for us to summon an emergency congress; more so, the board must first of all meet for the agenda if at all there will be any congress.”
”This was the same thing he did to the Sani Lulu led board when he masterminded their removal from office. We are not going to call for any congress because he is not a part of the congress.”
The NFF chairman of chairmen maintained that ever since the National Sports Commission Director General was not successful in installing the person whom he wanted as the NFF president, he has not relented in his effort in ensuring that the Aminu Magari led board is removed.
”It is unfortunate that Dr Patrick Ekeji is bent on removing us from office, but it will not be easy for him as we will not give in like that. The final thing is that FIFA will ban the country, and Nigerians should hold Ekeji responsible for it.”
”This is the only thing that brings joy to the whole Nation and we are doing everything within our power to move the nations football forward, but this man does not want us to be.”
The National Sports Commission had said in a release made available to 2muchsports.com that as a way to trying to resolve the lingering problem in the Nations football, they would be consulting with the Nigeria Football Federation during an emergency congress of the Nations football which is scheduled to hold on the 15th of this month.
