ABUJA — The clamour for true federalism in the country took a centre stage, weekend, when Action Congress of Nigeria, AC N,  Representatives thought of how it could be fully implemented and vowed to clamour for more local government councils.

This was the issue discussed by members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, AC N, in the House of Representatives, weekend. They vowed to embark on enlightenment and lobbying of other members of the 360-House about what Nigeria stood to gain from the operation of true fiscal federalism.

Rep. Solomon Adeola, a member of the ACN representing Alimosho Federal Constituency, in Lagos State, explained that the creation of more local governments as well as the enactment of fair and realistic revenue allocation formula were also on the the front burner.

Adeola declared: “There is an agenda of the party which borders on true federalism, local government creation, realistic revenue allocation formula and also true fiscal responsibility. These are major issues which are bothering the mind of our party and Nigeria as a whole.

“Also, do not forget the issue of graft, which has eaten deep into the fabric of government. These are issues, which I as a representative and also a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria believe that are very realisable agenda of the party.

And at the end of our four-year tenure, it is expected that this so-called agenda of the party must have been met, must have been tackled and Nigeria can have a new lease of life in terms of representation.

In his own explanation on how the agenda could be actualised, Rep. Babatunde Adewale of the ACN, representing Apapa Federal Constituency in Lagos State said: “We must work towards achieving fiscal federalism before the end of the tenure of this 7th National Assembly.
