Armed robbers yesterday attacked the branch of a first generation bank in Misau Local Government area of Bauchi State shooting one policeman and three civilians, but no life was lost in the incident.

The state police public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Barau, confirmed the incident.

 He said:  “Armed robbers attacked the bank in Misau but we are waiting for the details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, there”.

In his  account of the incident, a senior official of the local government said   the armed robbers stormed the bank in the afternoon, shooting sporadically  at the security personnel attached to the place and another bank close by and, in the process, injured a police man and three  civilians. 

According to him, when a unit of Mobile Policemen deployed to the area during the last general elections heard the gun shots, they  followed the robbers and fired shots, forcing the bandits to flee.

The council official said before they fled, however, they snatched the car of the bank manager which was later found at a place called Beti, a border community between Bauchi, Kano and Jigawa states.

He stated that  the injured policeman and three other victims were taken to  Misau General Hospital where doctors removed  bullets from their bodies after surgery.
