Ikeja – Airport users on Friday decried the deplorable condition of car parks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and called for their immediate rehabilitation .

The reports that the three car parks at the MMIA – Terminal Zero, Limousine and General car parks – are managed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Some users of the car parks, who spoke with NAN, complained about FAAN’s failure to keep the parks in good condition.

According to them, the parks become muddy each time it rains, thereby  making movement difficult for both vehicles and people.

A car hire operator, Mr Israel Olawale, described the state of the car parks as ridiculous in spite of the huge revenue FAAN was realising from the parks.

“I have been operating here for over seven years and FAAN registered more than 150 cars here for about N38,000 annually without maintaining the park,” Olawale said.

Mr Adetunji Francis, Secretary, Limousine Car Hire Operators, said that the association had written several letters to the authorities on the deplorable situation of the car park, all to no avail.

“It got to a stage we told FAAN we want to use our money to repair the park but they told us we cannot do anything until they give such approval and that is why you see the situation like this,” said the car hire operator.

When contacted, Mr Akin Olukunle, FAAN spokesman, told NAN that the authorities were doing a lot to improve facilities at the nation’s airports. (NAN)
