WARRI -PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has been called upon to consider the case of the Amnesty Phase III, with a view to extending the programme to members of the group in the interest of the Niger Delta region.
The Amnesty Phase III, said in a statement, yesterday, by ‘Gen.’ Henry Gomeromo, Chairman and ‘Gen.’ Tam Odogwu, Secretary, that the decision of the members to embrace amnesty was a clear testimony of the group’s resolve to bring about peace in the region. It said, “as peace ambassadors, we are expressing our confidence and support to the government in sustaining the relative peace in the region.”
The group said that while it had resolved to embrace the Federal Government’s offer on amnesty to give peace a chance, “we have not lost faith with the vision of the struggle for self-determination of our people.”
It added that it will continue to pursue the struggle through peaceful means until government tackles “the horizontal inequalities in the region.”
