ADO-EKITI—Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi Sunday erquested for a detachment of Nigerian soldiers in the state, in obvious concerns over the seeming security lapse in the state and last Tuesday’s armed robbery incident in Ado Ekiti, which claimed five lives, with 10 others seriously wounded.
This came as the governor ordered for supply of bullet more proof vests for security operatives in the state.
Speaking during the World Communication Day yesterday,
Fayemi said the deployment of soldiers in the state would complement efforts of other law enforcement agencies.
Fayemi who was accompanied to the church by his wife Bisi and his Deputy, Mrs Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka, noted that one of his 8 -point agenda was security, saying without peace and security that there could hardly be any meaningful development.
The governor described last week robbery incident as unfortunate saying ‘’there is no doubt that we observed some security lapses during the unfortunate incident, we have learnt one or two lessons from the incident. You may have noticed an unusual movement of security personnel in various parts of the state since Tuesday’s armed robbery incident, one of the thing we are doing is perhaps the deployment of soldiers to the state.
Though, we are not unaware of the fact that some people do feel uncomfortable seeing soldiers on the streets, but with the new development in the state, we think this will go a long way in solving the security lapse in the state.”
Speaking earlier, the Bishop of the Cathedral, Rev Felix Femi Ajakaiye, advised newsmen to be pro-active in their duties and always find out the truth about events being reported, and endeavour to do an indepth analysis of the story.
and facts.
Bishop Ajakaiye who praised Nigeria journalists and indeed those based in the state for their boldness and courage in exposing bad leaders and ills in our society
In a related development, the governor has ordered for more bullet proof vests to assist security operatives to combat armed bandits in the state
Fayemi dropped this hint weekend in Ado Ekiti, saying his administration had earlier procured some
bullet-proof vests for the police.
