Abuja – Nigerian  under-23 men football team are in high spirits for Sunday’s clash with Tanzania after arrival in Dar es Salaam early on Saturday, a team official has said.

The team’s Media Officer, Mr Arafat Aliu,  in a telephone interview, said  that the 30-man contingent had arrived to a good reception a little after 1 a.m on Saturday.

“We arrived around 1.10 a.m, which was 11.10 p.m Nigerian time, and we were indeed surprised to see officials of the Tanzania Football Federation waiting for us.

“They really worked hard to ensure we had a smooth transition from the Mwalimu Nyerere International Airport to our camp at the Durban Hotel,’’ he said.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) also has settled all the outstanding allowances of the players and officials of Dream Team V ahead of their clash on Sunday

The Nigerian team, which is also known as Dream Team V, is in the Tanzanian capital city for a 2012 Olympic Games qualifier against the hosts.

The second round first leg fixture, scheduled for the Dar es Salaam National Stadium, is one of the qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympic Games Men Football Event.

Aliu said the team had left Nigeria aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight on Friday evening, and had spent one hour in Addis Ababa before boarding the Dar es-Salaam flight.

He said the team would have its only training session before Sunday’s game on Saturday evening at the Dar es-Salaam National Stadium.

The Dream Team spokesman however said the players and officials are in fine shape and ready for the task ahead of them.

“With what I have seen and the way we have been received, the players and officials are all raring to go. I can assure that the team will not let Nigerians down tomorrow.

“We are all aware of our task, and we are in good shape. There are no worries, and we are battle-ready,’’ he said.

The Sunday  match is scheduled for 4 p.m (2 p.m Nigerian time).

Nigeria had eliminated Equatorial Guinea to get to the second round while Tanzania on their part beat 2000 Olympic Men Football champions Cameroon.

The second leg match against Tanzania holds on June 18.(NAN)
