Hamilton confident Falcons will soar in Germany

By KATE OBODO
With just a few weeks to go for  the 2011  FIFA  Womens World Cup in Germany, former  Super Falcons coach Paul Hamilton is confident the Falcons  will put up a credible performance in Germany.

The team  departed Lagos Wednesday for Saalfelden in Austria for a four-week training camp that will usher the African Champions into the 6th Fifa Women’s World Cup.

The former Nigerian international, despite what happened in the all Africa Games qualifier between Ghana and Nigeria where the Falcons failed to qualify, said the Falcons would do very well in the competition.

“Well I’m happy that they eventually left. If they did not go I  wonder what people would have said. Now that they have gone, they will not be open to distraction and they will concentrate more on their game.

“Even if it is one or two weeks they will have in the training, I still believe in them.  The All Africa Games qualifier is past now, therefore we should not judge them with that. We are looking forward for a better performance.

“My advice to Eucharia Uche is to do her  best and  ensure that  the girls have the best preparation ahead of the competition,” he said.

Nigeria is grouped alongside  host  Germany, France and Canada in Group A. The  event holds between   26 June and 17 July, 2011.

Mabo wants early preparation for Falcons

Former Super Falcons coach Ismaila Mabo  has advised the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to put behind them the failure  of the Falcons to qualify for the All Africa Games which comes up in September this year.

He said that both the football authorities and the team’s technical crew should  rather focus on the preparation of the team for the Women’s World Cup in Germany.

The present Falcons  became the first set of Nigeria’s female players to fail to qualify for a major championship when they were beaten 2-1 by Ghana in Accra.

Mabo said: “As far as I’m concerned, the Falcons qualification for the All  Africans Games is gone because we have been eliminated by Ghana. One would have expected the NFF  to ensure that they prepared very well before travelling down to Ghana for the second leg  having played 1-1 in Abuja . Unfortunately it was not to so hence we were beaten 2-1.

“My advise to the Nigeria Football Federation is to make sure  they give the Falcons adequate preparation for the forthcoming World Cup in Germany. They should ensure they put the girls in camp in good time and also send them on a training tour, at least to stay in Europe for some time before the event proper.

I believe if they do that, the girls will be able to make an impact and  might be able to beat that (my) record of getting to the quarter finals,” Mabo said.
