Ethiopia will pose a threat to us – Owoblow

By KATE OBODO
As the Super Eagles get set for a Nations Cup qualifier in Addis Ababa against Ethiopia, former Green Eagles’ prolific left-winger, Felix Owolabi, has sent a  warning note to coach Samson Siasia to be wary of the  weather of Ethiopia as he believes it could work against his team.

According to him, the only way  to overcome  the altitude  is to acclimatise by going there well before the match.

“The fact that the Eagles beat Argentina will give the coach the leverage to pick his  team for the Ethiopia match. Secondly, it will also boost the morale and confidence of the players.

“It is my hope that we will qualify by the special grace of God. As a true Nigerians, let us pray for him, the man has started well, trying to get a new team for Nigeria, what we need to do is to support him and give him the necessary encouragement. We do not need to criticize him too much  otherwise he will derail and get confused.

“Having said this, I think Ethiopia will pose a threat to us. The reason is that  the weather in Ethiopia is very harsh. And if you look at Nigeria, each time we want to play our matches at home, it has  always been towards the evening time but with Ethiopia, it is a different ball game. The only way forward is to be there early.

I have been there before and I know what it takes  to play in Ethiopia. The early he goes to  Ethiopia the better for him, so that the players  will get used to the weather. I think their harsh weather as become a  weapon to defeat  most teams,” Owoblow, as he is fondly called, said.
