The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ogun State  has described the departure of out-going governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for the United Kingdom (UK) Friday, as a serious security lapse and charged President Goodluck Jonathan to leave no stone unturned to ensure his immediate repatriation and prosecution for alleged  crimes he perpetrated while in office.”

In a press statement signed by the publicity secretary of the ACN in the state, Mr. Sola Lawal, the party said  Jonathan, as the commander-in-chief of the armed  forces and a leader believed to be committed to the fight against corruption, should investigate how Daniel was able to glide through the security agencies to the UK.

Noting that Daniel might have fled the country following security reports that he may be quizzed this week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) along with eight other out-going governors over alleged misappropriation of funds in their respective states, the ACN recalled that the Ogun State Accountant General, Mr. Seye Senfuye,  last Wednesday, put the debt profile of the state as at March 31, 2011 at N49, 232,597,163.67 and stated that the governor may want to escape prosecution.

The ACN said although it disputes the figure put forward by the accountant general vigorously, it still believes the debt profile of such a magnitude “is the height of irresponsibility of an administration which during the Olusegun Obasanjo regime, enjoyed debt forgiveness to the tune of about N30 billion.”
