Lagos – A total of 124 players have started jostling for honours at the 33rd Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open Senior Tennis Championships which served off on Friday in Lagos.
The organisers, Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), however, say more players are still being expected to register as provision was made for 200 in the tournament which will end on June 4.
Ikhana Mbora, Secretary of the NTF said that the qualifying matches had commenced but that due to some constraints, some players had not arrived.
“The male players have shown interest to play in this year’s edition of the championships as 90 males and 34 females have been registered so far.
“The two players on training in Holland, Sunday Emmanuel and Fatima Abinu, winners of the last edition are also being expected.
“We expect this year’s edition to be exceptional and successful as adequate preparations have been put in place,” she said.
Rainfall delayed the serving off of the competition till late afternoon.
