The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, yesterday, shut  a total of 16 bakeries and water production outfits for non compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices, GMP, and Good Hygienic Practice, GHP, in three different locations in Lagos.

The three areas in Lagos include; Mushin, Alagbado and Iyana – Ipaja.

The outlets shut  are part of the 1,402 manufacturing outlets sanctioned by NAFDAC’s Establishment Inspection Directorate, Lagos Special Zone, EID LSZ, since the beginning of this year for failure to comply with GHP and GMP requirements.

Reacting to the closure, the Public Relation Officer of NAFDAC in Lagos, Mrs Christiana Obiazikwor, who spoke on behalf of the Director- General, Dr. Paul Orhii attributed the closure to the EID LSZ intensified monitoring activities to enforce hygienic practices across the nation.

 Orhii explained that “Part of the monitoring activities includes carrying product sampling to determine that bakeries used recommended bread improvers for their dough”.
