ASABA – DELTA State Police Commissioner, Mr Mamman  Tsafe, yesterday, said   about N84 million was carted away during the robbery attacks on some of the banks in Kwale and that his men successfully recovered  N4.65m cash out of the stolen money.

As a result of the robbery, banks in Kwale did not open for business throughout yesterday.

He also told reporters that a Bank Manager,  who was kidnapped in another separate incident three days ago at Okpala Water Side along Benin/Abraka Road, was rescued by a police patrol team, which discovered him “chained in an uncompleted building at Ugolo town.”

Apart from the N4.65m  that was recovered, the CP listed other items  recovered as “three AK 47 rifles, 20 AK 47 live ammunition, 38 empty magazines, expended explosives and dynamites, among others.”

According to him, “a notorious gang of bank robbers, numbering over 25 armed with dynamites and other sophisticated weapons, besieged Kwale branches of Unity Bank, Oceanic Bank and Zenith Bank.

The robbers also attacked Skye Bank at Amai. The robbers allegedly carted away about N84m. The command swiftly mobilized patrol teams, which ambushed the robbers along Amai and Nsukwa Road and at Amai where they were first confronted.”
