Kaduna – The Kaduna State Government has alerted residents living along river banks of impending flood disasters predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

Consequently, the government has appealed to such residents to take precautionary measures by regularly clearing drain systems and environmental sanitation to allow for easy passage of water.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu, disclosed this on Friday in Kaduna.

Adamu also said that state government had mandated the Ministries of Environment and Information to embark on various sensitization campaigns to alert the people living in the affected areas of the impending floods.

He further said that the government was considering re-introducing the monthly environmental sanitation as part of efforts to checkmate any flood disaster.

He appealed to people, particularly those living around the river banks, to adhere to various sanitation measures to avert any flood disaster.

The September 2010 flood disaster wreaked havoc in Sokoto, Jigawa, Kebbi and Zamfara states , rendering hundreds of people homeless and destroying many farmlands.
