A 26-year-old man, Mr. John Atosu, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Chief Magisterates Court at
Idogbo, near Benin, for violently beating up his father.
Prosecuting Police sergeant, Eleng Agwu, had told the court that Mr. Atosu had on April 10, 2011, molested his
father, Mr. Michael Atosu, who tried in vain to caution him against bad behaviour.
The convict, he further told the court, also beat up his elder sister for attempting to prevent him from taking an
item from their mother’s shop.
Before the court passed its judgment, the father had pleaded passionately with the court to help curtail the son’s
bad behaviour which, he said, had assumed an alarming dimension.
In her ruling, Mrs. Esther Eweka, President of the Court, consequently sentenced John Atosu to two years and 4months
imprisonment with hard labour and without any option of fine.
