The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) PLC, has built a newly completed and fully equipped classroom blocks for Idu Koro Primary School, one of the host community in Abuja.

Consequent upon this, the school’s population of 140 students has risen by almost 100 percent to 250 in anticipation of the opportunities the new facility will provide.

In a statement, Yanju Olomola, Head of Public Affairs and Communications NBC, who disclosed this said the bottling firm recently completed the block of six classrooms and equipped it with benches teachers’ tables and chairs and transparent white boards.

She said that previously, the school was being run in a makeshift single structure fabricated from galvanized roofing sheets.

She stated that the company is particular about the growth and development of communities around its operations and sees the child as a critical but often forgotten stakeholder in whose hands lie the future of these societies and is therefore committed to contributing as its resources will permit into the development of these children.

She noted that with the encouraging increase in enrolment recorded, the additional block will further spur more children to avail themselves of this basic education.

NBC had in March commissioned a similar project for a school in the host communities of one of its bottling plants in the South West. In September 2010, the contribution of the company to providing educational infrastructure towards youth development was acknowledged by the Lagos State Government with the presentation of a CSR Award to the company.

NBC was incorporated in November 1951 and is a member of Coca_Cola Hellenic S.A, an anchor bottler with the franchise to bottle products of The Coca_Cola Company in 28 countries in North, Central and South Europe , Asia and in Africa with over 560 million consumers in these markets.
