Kaduna -The Federal Government has no constitutional mandate to investigate crisis in states, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Mr Waje Yayok, has said.

The scribe was speaking against the backdrop of President Goodluck Jonathan’s 22-member Commission of Inquiry into the pre and post-election violence in parts of the country.

Yayok said  on Tuesday in Kaduna that it was the mandate of the affected states to set up such commissions or panels in line with relevant sections of the constitution.

He said that the Kaduna State Government would soon set up a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the April 18 post-election protests in the state.

He added that the state government had on April 29, during its Executive Council Meeting, resolved to set up the commission.

Yayok said that the list of members was ready for the governor’s approval and that the commission would soon be inaugurated to swing into action.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government had on May 9 set-up a 20-man panel to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the pre-election crisis in Akwa Ibom and the post-election skirmishes in other affected states.

It would be recalled that the election violence which erupted in some  states in the North, claimed many lives and properties worth  millions of Naira, while more than 5,000 people were displaced in Kaduna State.

The displaced persons are now taking refuge at nine different refugee camps across the state, including police and military barracks and the state Hajj Camp at Mando.

Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna had on May 6, set up a 13-man Administrative Commission to take inventory of the victims and the properties destroyed during the crisis for government’s assistance.

The commission, headed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Sa’idu Adamu, is  expected to compile a list of displaced persons and properties destroyed in the crisis.

It is also expected to compile a list of those who died in the 19 Local Government Areas affected by the crisis within two weeks. (NAN)
