PORT HARCOURT – ONE person was feared dead, Sunday night and three others allegedly injured when some gunmen
opened fire at a political meeting in Elele, Ikwerre local government area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam confirmed the attack, saying that those injured were receiving treatment at a trauma centre in Port Harcourt.

According to community sources, the meeting was holding at the residence of a former Vice Chairman of the local government when some unknown gun men in a Mercedes Jeep drove close and opened fire on those at the meeting.

“From what I heard the person who was killed is from Elele while one of the injured persons, whom I know very well, is from Obele in Emohua. His name is Monday, a father of two”, one of the sources said.

The Police spokesman said efforts were on to arrest those behind the act.
