BENIN CITY – THE Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ekpoma branch has expressed worries over the seeming onslaught on Commercial and micro finance banks in Edo Central senatorial district of the state, therefore appealed to Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the police command in the state to save banks in the area from extinction by providing adequate security.

Vanguard observed that banks in the area have been offering skeletal services in the past two weeks due to the menace of armed bandits in the area.

As a matter of fact, the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, led the mobile policemen attached to him and those in Uromi police station to chase away the robbers who invaded the Uromi branch of the UBA, three weeks ago.

However, in a statement signed by the chairman of the NBA in the area, Dr Nathaniel Inegbedion and Secretary, Mr J.Balogun, the NBA regretted what it described as the deplorable security situation in the whole of Edo Central senatorial district “which has compelled all the commercial and micro Finance banks to lock up their gates for the past two weeks against all their teeming customers on account of recent raids and further threats from armed robbers.

“We know that these banks within the limits of their resources have invested much on security but this has not yielded the desired result. So we are appealing that the Comrade Governor should take urgent steps to create a safe, secure and enabling environment for banking and other commercial activities to thrive” it stated.
