Jos – Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau has promised to use his second term to correct the mistakes his administration made during the last four years and that Plateau  belonged to everybody irrespective of affiliations.

Jang stated this on Friday in Jos when members of the state’s Traditional Council paid him a congratulatory visit over  his re-election.

“The opportunity given me again for another four years is to serve our people; we are going to review our past achievements and improve upon them.

“We will also look at our failures and see where we need to make corrections and ensure that by the time the next four years is over, Plateau people will be proud at re-electing us,” he said.

The governor said his administration would not discriminate against anybody or group in the state irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affiliation.

He also promised not to neglect any part of the state or group for not voting for him, saying his victory was for every Plateau citizen.

“We can’t say we will not do things for some people because they did not vote for us or that we will do things for some because they voted for us.

“To my understanding, I won election in all the 17 local government areas and I will give equal attention and opportunities to all,’’ he said.

The governor said Plateau  belonged to everybody irrespective of affiliations and  urged the people to close ranks and work for the overall interest of the state.

He urged his opponents to  come on board his administration, saying  his victory was for everybody and not that of the PDP alone.

Earlier, the President of the council and Gbong Gwom Jos, Dr  Jacob Buba, commended the state government and security agencies for  ensuring peaceful conduct of the general elections.

Buba, however, appealed to government and the security agencies to remain vigilant in order to maintain the  ongoing  peace process in the state.

The monarch called on those who won at the polls to be magnanimous by extending the hands of fellowship to those who lost in order to move the state forward.

“We want to appeal to those who are misguiding the youth to have a rethink in the collective interest of Plateau.

“We also want to call on the youths to appreciate the fact that those who are in leadership position today are laying a solid foundation for tomorrow,” he said.

He challenged government to create opportunities that would improve the well-being of the citizens and reduce the security threat “worsened by high unemployment rate.”

Buba urged the state government to address the lingering strike action in tertiary institutions in the state.

“We appeal to government to critically look into the concerns in the educational sector to save it from total collapse,” Buba added. (NAN)
