Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State yesterday wept uncontrollably during the funeral service for Mr Seun Adewunmi, a member of the NYSC killed in Bauchi during the post-election violence.
Adewunmi, 27, a Political Science graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, hailed from Ogotun-Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government area of the state.
The deceased, who was deployed to Giade Local Government of Bauchi State for the NYSC scheme was one of the nine corps members killed during the post-election violence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Fayemi wept when he inspected Adewunmi’s remains with members of the State Executive Council during a state burial organised at the Government House, Ado-Ekiti.
The governor, who addressed the gathering, promised that the state government would name a monument after the deceased and sponsor the education of Adewunmi’s siblings.
He further said: “What offence did Seun commit? Has he committed an offence for answering a national call by going for service?
“Seun even went further by answering the call for additional national calls by joining other youth corps members to conduct a free, fair and credible elections for Nigerians.”
He asked the Federal Government to bring to justice the irate youths who perpetrated the killings in the overall interest of the nation.
