Niger Republic coach, Brah Taher has said that his team is not in the country for the WAFU Cup to be beaten by the second string Super Eagles.

Coach Taher who made this known to Saturday Vanguard Sports in an exclusive interview said  even though he has his eyes on the final of the competition, he is more keen at preparing his relatively young side for the African Cup of

Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone and the tournament proper in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.
“We are not here in Abeokuta to be beaten, we did not leave our country to give our back to Nigerian and be beaten.

We are going to play fair and play to win, so let’s see what happens on Saturday.

“I cannot tell you that we do not want to get to the end of the tournament, the main focus for us is just to get these young boys in the team in good shape for the Nations Cup qualifiers and the tournament proper in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

“Yes we have met Nigeria before and we eliminated them in the CHAN qualifiers but we are not here based on that, we are here for a tournament like every other country to do our best. We are here to enjoy our self and have nice time with other African countries from the sub-region; this I believe is the bases for the tournament.

“Moreover, the team that defeated Nigerian in the CHAN qualifying series is not the same with what we have now, we have brought in new players to fortify it and build it ahead of the Nations Cup qualifiers as we are playing against Sierra Leone,” Taher said.
