Umuahia — Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, the former Chairman  of Niger Delta Development Commission, says the Igbo will be justified to go for the presidency in 2015.

Ugochukwu said in Umuahia that the unity and resolve of the South East was the biggest lesson of 2011 polls,  adding “We made a decision to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and we voted massively and overwhelmingly.”

“It was a strong message, the tribe represented in every part of the country was not tied to the South East alone.”
Ugochukwu expressed the hope that the race would use the new found unity to leverage and reposition itself in the country’s politics, stressing that disunity made the tribe to lose its pride of place in the country.

“Our new found strength in 2011 polls will get us there,’’ he said.

On PDP’s victory in Abia, the party’s governorship candidate in the April 2007 election, said: “This election is a demonstration of our sincerity to PDP and Gov. Theodore Orji.

“We thank God and the good people of Abia for the victory and the faith they have in our great party.”

According to him, winning the 11 National Assembly seats, the governorship and the 24 House of Assembly positions was not an easy task.

“This victory shows that the party is united and has finally come together as a working team.

“The best way to understand what has happened is to reflect on the state of the PDP in 2003 and 2007,’’ he said.
Ugochukwu said his expectation for Abia in the next four years would be a period of transformation, adding that he was inspired by Orji promise that he was in a haste to transform the state.
