Best Western Hotel makes case for standard in the industry

The General Manager, Best Western hotel Ikeja, Jonathan Patterson, said the standard they have brought into hospitality business in Lagos will differentiate them from others in the state.

He said the facilities in the hotel are the most modern in the hospitality industry and that they are poised to fill the gap in quality hospitality needs of the business and residential communities in Lagos.

The British_born general manager is happy that guests who resort to alternative offer because of the rates are gradually coming back on discovering value for money amidst lasting experience in the comfort of the various room categories; ranging from business express, business plus, business deluxe and suites.

“We have a good brand and the standard is quite high. But there is effort to make people understand why the rates are the way they are at present. The effort is fruitful as we record many repeat visits”, Patterson explains.

While other facilities complement memorable stay, the management of the hotel is forming strategic business alliance with related organizations at bringing the best of hospitality experience that is value for money to guests. Now in_house guests can enjoy an evening of golf session at the Ikeja Golf Course. There is also effort at bring the best of spa and other recreational packages to the hotel.

Olatunde Oluoye, managing director of the hotel, explains that all the initiatives are in a bid to give its high profile guests a one_stop_shop hospitality experience in and outside the confines of the hotel.

The hotel is taking seriously the issue of dearth in skilled manpower. Oluloye, who is also the chairman, Institute of Hospitality UK, Nigeria chapter, says in the journey to world class facility and service delivery, Best Western Ikeja Hotel is collaborating with renowned hospitality institutes and relevant organisations in training and retraining of its workforce from waiter to management staff.

“We come to set standards that will continually improve. It is a huge target that must be met to set the hotel apart from the rest in Ikeja and the entire Lagos mainland”, Oluloye explaining further that the hotel comes to set international standard and not the ‘Nigerian standard’ as some international brands compromise till date.
