Long jumper, Comfort Onyali is comfortable with the 1000 dollars training grant by the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC towards preparation for the London 2012 Olympics.

Onyali, Blessing Okagare and Ogho-Oghene Egwero were the track and field athletes selected by the NOC to benefit from a scholarship package made available by the London 2012 Olympics promoters.
“It’s really a good thing to be on the list. Athletes need money to train and I’m glad that it is coming when we need it most.
“Money motivates a lot and with that kind of stipend coming to us, we’ll surely train with all seriousness,” said the athlete.
Onyali made her international debut for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games last year in New Delhi. Though her efforts failed to yield fruits, she indicated that she would make amends at the All African Games and the World Championships later in the year.
“I’m really working hard in training with the hope of achieving something for myself and country,” Onyali said.
Ajunwa gets Role Model award
Role Model School Ikeja during the week presented former Olympic long jump champion Chioma Ajunwa a role model award during its maiden inter house sports championship. Ajunwa was the first African athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in field event .
The award was presented by the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre Pastor Sam Adeyemi. The School Administrator Mrs. Sumbo Banjo eulogized the award recipients for their exemplary roles in the nation’s sports development.
She said Chioma Ajunwa who is a former international athlete and a sport icon, is “seen as a good role model for the youth of the country.” She also described Akintunde as a “broadcaster per excellence who has carved a niche for himself as one the nation’s soccer analyst.
The award recipients thanked the management of Role Model for the recognition accorded them. An visibly elated Chioma Ajunwa said “Academic and sports work together to put pupils at a good advantage to have a choice of career in life and I believe if the pupils can work hard as I did and still doing, the sky will the limit”
Earlier, Sapphire House emerged the overall winner of the maiden inter house sports championship of the Role Model schools with a total of nine gold, three silver and three bronze medals beating Ruby, Topaz, Emerald House to second, third and fourth position respectively.
The one day event featured twenty two events was attended by personalities who included Bada Akintunde-Johnson, Rev. Sam Adeyemi and Pastor (Mrs.) Nike Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre.
