Flying Eagles now work on the tither after losing their second group match to Cameroon Thursday and coach John Obuh has said that Gambia who they meet tomorrow in the last group game won’t be an easy nut to crack.

In a post match interview with cafonline.com, Obuh expressed his disappointment with the players’ performance and said they lacked the fighting spirit as he had hoped to beat Cameroon as a departure from the past when they always had the upper hand.

“We lost against a strong Cameroonian team. I came into this tournament with the hope of turning the tables and for once, beat Cameroon. Unfortunately we lost. I was not satisfied with my boys’ performance. They played but did not show the desire to want to win.”

He said he would go back to the drawing board to re-strategise against Gambia who drew 1-1 with Ghana who are not too sure of making the next round having lost their opening match 1-2 against the Flying Eagles.

He described VV Venlo attacker, Ahmed Musa, who was missing from the Thursday line-up after heading back to Holland for an important league game this weekend, as a very important player in the team but added that if he had played like others, the situation wouldn’t have changed.

“(Ahmed Musa) is an important player but the thing is, if he was here and played like the other players did, we still could have lost. That does not mean he is not important, as he was man of the match in previous game and it takes an important player to get that.  But I cannot attribute the loss to his absence.”

He congratulated Cameroon on their victory, adding that “we lost against a strong Cameroonian team. I came into this tournament with the hope of turning the tables and for once, beat Cameroon. Unfortunately we lost.”
