Abuja -The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said , yesterday, that no life was lost in Kano during the recent political violence in the state.

A statement from Mr Yushau Shuaib, the head of the media in NEMA, said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Dan-Azumi Doma, clarified the situation when he received the special presidential committee on the plight of displaced people as a result of the violence.

The statement, however, said that some properties were destroyed while some people sustained injuries during the crisis.

Meanwhile, NEMA has continued to send relief materials to various Internally Displaced People’s Camps (IDPCs) in the state.

The leader of the committee who is also the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi, commended the response of security agencies in controlling the situation.

He said the team was in Kano for on-the-spot assessment of the situation and assured the displaced persons that the government would continue to protect and provide them with basic amenities.

Sani-Sidi said: “President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that we ensure you are adequately provided with basic needs.

“So far, many more trucks are being dispatched from our strategic warehouses to meet your demand.”

He added that from the preliminary reports by response agencies, the crises were neither religious nor ethnic.
