Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan, Liyel Imoke and Gbenga Daniel of Delta, Cross River and Ogun States respectively, called on Nigerians to pray for the peace and stability of the country in the spirit of Easter.

Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State  also enjoined Nigerians to continue to put their expectation and trust in God and their leaders for the sustainability of quality leadership and good governance.

In a similar vein, National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, his Anglican counterpart, Most Rev. Adebola Ademowo and Fresh Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Rev. Chris Okotie, also urged Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ and live in peace with one another

The governors’ entreaties came against the backdrop of the violence which has trailed the declaration of results of the presidential election won by President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

UDUAGHAN

Gov. Uduaghan, who called for cessation of the crisis, said violence was not a part of democratic ideals, and urged parents to dissuade their children from being used to perpetrate thuggery and violence.

The governor, who stated this in his Easter message also charged the people of the state to use this period of Easter celebration to re-examine their commitment to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria at large.

IMOKE

On his part, Gov.Imoke urged Christians in the country to use the period of Easter to pray for peace and stability of the country.

Imoke, in his Easter message to the people of the state,  signed by the Special Assistant, Media/Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Omini Oden, said prayers for the country had become necessary at this period which coincided with the general elections.

DANIEL

Similarly, Gov Daniel of Ogun State urged Nigerians to use the Easter period to re-examine their commitment and sense of dedication to the growth and development of the country.

In his Easter message issued in Abeokuta, Governor Daniel said the essence of the period was sacrifice; love for humanity and total submission to the will of God should not be lost on all and sundry and urged all Nigerians to continue to pray and work for the success of the elections and the transition programme.

Alao-Akala

Gov. Alao-Akala in his Easter message to Nigerians signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Abraham Ojo, stressed the need to appreciate God for His mercy and goodness to witness this year’s Easter celebrations.

Oritsejafor

In his goodwill message to the nation, National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, said events of the past few days had amply shown that Nigerians were yet to come to terms with the tenets of democracy and must, therefore, take advantage of the season to turn a new leaf in the interest of the nation.

He urged Nigerians to eschew violence in every ramification and the wanton killing of innocent souls in parts of the country and try to live in peace with one another in the spirit of the compassion demonstrated by Jesus Christ who went to the Cross for the sins of the entire world.

OKOGIE

In his message, Cardinal Okogie also urged Nigerians to show love to one another as “lack of love has created so many problems in our country and in the world as a whole. We hear and read of numerous stories of fraud, killings, cheating, deceit, lies, envy, terrorism, assassination, oppression, cruelty, jealousy, selfishness etc. All these are fall-outs from a dismal lack of love between and amongst us.

Ademowo

On his part, Dr. Ademowo advised Nigerians to resolve to make a difference in the world around them, adding: “You can invest in someone else’s life and future. You can care for some unloved people today. Be a encourager and a blessing to the World. This will certainly help in reducing  unemployment and poverty drastically.

“The disclosure by the governor of the Central Bank that 25 per cent of our National Overhead Expenditures is currently spent on the National Assembly is an outrage. At a trying period when all aspects of our national infrastructure cry out for adequate funding and many of our people live in abject poverty while the news that government officials are swelling their own account is unconscionable.

Okotie

Rev. Chris Okotie also appealed to Nigerians to eschew violence and stop the killing of innocent citizens in some parts of the north following the declaration of President Goodluck Jonathan as the winner of the presidential elections.

The pastor-politician said violence would not resolve any dispute.
