Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh has said the Cubs of Cameroun deserved their victory over the Flying Eagles of Nigeria in a Group B match of the Africa Youth Championship played yesterday in South Africa.

Speaking after the encounter which the Nigerians  lost 1-0, Obuh refused to attribute the loss to the absence of VVV Venlo of Holland striker, Ahmed Musa. He however said the Flying Eagles did not show hunger for victory.

Said he, “well, he is an important player but the thing is, if he was here and played like the other players did, we still could have lost. That does not mean he is not important, as he was man of the match in our previous game and it takes an important player to get that.  But I cannot attribute the loss to his absence.”

Continuing, John Obuh said he was in the tournament to rewrite history having in mind the advantage Cameroun had over Nigeria in the history of the championship, “we lost against a strong Cameroonian team.

I came into this tournament with the hope of turning the tables and for once, beat Cameroon. Unfortunately we lost. I was not satisfied with my boys’ performance today. They played but did not show the desire to want to win.”

He promised to return to the drawing board ahead of the next and final group match against Gambia.
On his part the Cameroun coach was all smiles and he said, “I am very satisfied.

We came into this game with the desire to beat Nigeria. We have done that and have 6 points in two games.  My boys showed a very strong fighting spirit and for that I congratulated them.”
