LAGOS  – TRADE Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development, CEHRD and Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that its officials adhere strictly to election guidelines to ensure the credibility of the voting process.

Working as Domestic Election Observation,DEO, partners, under the aegis of National Elections Incidents Centre, NEIC, the group singled out the time for commencement of accreditation and voting. It  argued that the practice of concurrent accreditation and voting as witnessed in the National Assembly and presidential elections, was contrary to INEC guidelines, saying it should  be stopped forthwith.

On its report on the presidential election, TUC, CEHRD and CDHR, in a statement by Patrick Naagbanton, Coordinator, CEHRD; Olasupo Ojo, CDHR and Mr Peter Esele, Pesident-General, TUC, said, “all accredited election observers, both domestic and international, should be allowed to perform their duties free from harassment and intimidation.”
