The high-profiled international friendly match between Nigeria and Argentina on June 1 at the Abuja National Stadium has been described as the game that would help define the true character of the emerging Eagles team being packaged by Coach Samson Siasia.

Disclosing this recently, a former Nigerian striker, Segun Odegbami, while commending Guinness Nigeria PLC for bankrolling the game, urged Siasia to make use of this big match to get his team into the best possible shape for the African Cup of Nations qualification match against Ethiopia, which comes up about four days after the game in Addis Ababa.

Odegbami said in Lagos that the Eagles should see the match as a learning curve requiring zeal and commitment, adding that more of such quality Grade A friendly matches would condition the team for future assignments.

“This opportunity will give the team the necessary exposure and confidence no matter the result,’’ said Odegbami, a member of the team that won 1980 Africa Cup of Nations said.

He added that  “The match will be keenly contested because the two teams are no strangers to each other,”
Argentina beat Nigeria 2_1 at the USA’94 World Cup. They defeated the Eagles 1_0 at the 2002 World Cup and 1_0 at the 2010 edition in South Africa.
