KADUNA –  The Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa, Tuesday, announced the extension of the 24 hour curfew imposed on the state as violence subsides  in parts of  Kaduna metropolis but escalates in some more places in the state.

The Governor who today,  visited t St. Gerard Hospital, 44 Army Referral Hospital and  Barau Dikko Hospitals in Kaduna, where thousands were taking treatment and refuge expressed regrets over the carnage, and promised to offset their bills.

A statement by the Media Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Reuben Buhari,  reads: “ The Executive Governor of Kaduna state thanks all Security agencies and all traditional rulers and good people of Kaduna State for their effort at ensuing gradual return to normalcy in Kaduna state. The Governor also condemns in totality  spilling of the violence to the southern part of the state. His Excellency hereby reiterates that the 24 hour curfew imposed on the state still stands. ”, he said.

But, reports reaching Vanguard  revealed that the violence has escalated to all the three senatorial zones of the State

The Kaduna State Police Spokesman, DSP Aminu Lawan, confirmed this in a telephone chat.

“The Police, the Military and other sister agencies are all doing their best to contain the situation which has already got to normalcy  in Kaduna town.

“But right now, every of the 23 Local Government Area (LGA) has some form of fighting going on”, he said.

“But it is worse in Zonkwa and Kafanchan in Zangon Kataf and Jema’a LGAs  and I want to tell you that the Army has already arrived there”, he said.

Asked on the casualty, he said, “I cannot tell you for now how many are killed our wounded. But the number is much. I don’t have the figures, but there were  lots  of goods and properly destroyed”, he said,

“We have made several arrests all over the state, and we still doing our best to contain the situation”, he said.

Vanguard in Kaduna monitored on phone as heavy fighting continued in Kafanchan  from around 8pm on Monday night to around noon yesterday. A  Source told Vanguard that CPC supporters in the town had imported mercenaries  who went around shooting PDP supporters and  non-Muslims and setting their homes and churches ablaze.
