The National Union of Road   Transport  Workers (NURTW) has called on the Federal Government to resuscitate Volkswagen Nigeria .

The Union’s General Secretary, Mr kingsley Ukoh, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Abuja .“We are calling on the government to open un vehicle assembly plants in the country and also resuscitate Volkswagen company so that the common man will be able to have access to cheap vehicles.

Ukoh, who said the union”s main challenge was its inadequate supply of vehicles, noted that restoring the production of Volkswagen would boost their service delivery to the masses. He added that resuscitating Volkswagen would enable the union to effectively execute its mandate to transport goods and services from one place to the other.

The General Secretary decried what he described as the high cost of Peugeot vehicles, and apealed to the government to evolve a policy that would bring down the prices “so that the common man can afford to buy them”.

Ukoh said that the reduction in the prices of Peugeot automobiles would make the vehicles readily available for mass transportation in the country. “The challenge facing the union is inadequacy of vehicles for transportation in the country and the few ones that are imported come most times without spare parts.
