Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspect, one Ifeanyi Eboigbe, for allegedly threatening the Returning Officer for Ika Federal Constituency, Dr Godwin Avwiovo, with a gun and abducted him during last Saturday’s National Assembly elections.
The suspect is presently being interrogated at the Police Headquarters, Asaba.
Trouble started when Avwiovo said publicly that some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, changed all the youth corps members sent to the area, prepared uniforms for other corps members and made him to sign the result under duress.
Avwiovo said, “I was forcefully kept. They tried to induce me. My life was threatened. If a gun is pointed at your head, what will you do? The first thing is to save your life.”
It was gathered that attempts by the Police Commissioner, Adisa Bolanta, to resolve the matter between Nwoko, Avwiovo, INEC Administrative Secretary, Timi Koroye, Doris Uboh, House of Reps incumbent and other stakeholders failed, following which the CP directed the matter to INEC for resolution.
