FG gives deadline for completion of Taraba Dam

The Federal government has awarded a water contract to SCC Construction Company on Kashimbilla Gamovo Multipurpose Dam with a thirty months completion deadline. Kashimbilla Gamovo Multipurpose Dam is located between Kashimbilla and Gamovo on River Katsina-Ala in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The dam is principally intended to check the threat of flood from the structurally weak volcanic Lake NYOS, located upstream along the Cameroom line of volcanic activity.

Amb. Godknows Igali, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Abuja, Monday expressed satisfaction on the level of work done  at the Kashimbilla  Multipurpose Dam.

Igali who went on inspection tour of the dam in company of Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, Permanent Secretary, National Ecological Fund Agency, and Engr. Fatai Olopade, a Director in the Ministry of Power.

The Kashimbilla Gamovo Multipurpose dam,when completed is expected to  measure 35m in height, 1,585m in length and 150m width with reservoir capacity of 500mcm ,hydropower capacity of 40mw, Irrigation area of 2000ha and water treatment plant of 60,000m3  to supply water for 400,000 people.
