Katsina-The Katsina Police Command has arrested three persons for allegedly snatching nine ballot booklets during Saturday’s aborted National Assembly elections.
Those arrested are Alhaji Musa Tasi’u, the Village Head of Kwatai, Mashi Local Government Area; Alhaji Murtala Abubakar and Alhaji Babangida Abubakar.
The fourth suspect, Alhaji Yusuf Liman, is now at large.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Ibrahim, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina, Thursday that the suspects were apprehended in Kwatai village following a report from INEC officials in the state.
According to him, the suspects allegedly snatched the booklets on Saturday shortly after the electoral officers announced the postponement of the elections in the village.
The police spokesman said that after receiving the report from the INEC officials, the command swung into action and arrested the three suspects who were now assisting the police in their investigations.
“The police have so far recovered seven ballot booklets from the suspects, while investigation is still going on to ascertain their individual involvement,” he said.
Ibrahim said the suspects would be charged to court on the completion of investigations.
